Bing Bake Unofficial Historian For North County

Subject

Historian Charles (Bing) Bake

Description

The local Historian Bing Bake shows slides of the local events that went on in the Nehalem Bay area. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta and came to Oregon with his parents in 1923, later moving to Nehalem in 1927.
Bings father bought a dairy farm on the North Fork, sight unseen, from a prospector he met on the train in British Columbia in 1922. His father was forced to sell because his sons were all in the service.
Bing had entered the marine corps and served in the South Pacific and occupation duty in China. He then returned to Nehalem in 1946. He worked in logging, construction, commercial fishing and at the old cheese factory at Alderveil on the North Fork. At one time there were 27 cheese factories.
