The Nehalem Valley Historical Society, in partnership with the City of Nehalem, leads a  cemetery beautification volunteer crew on Wednesdays from 11AM to 2PM.  In 2016, from April through November, volunteers contributed 300 hours towards the beautification and preservation of the Historic Nehalem American Legion Cemetery.

These weekly sessions have ceased for the rest of the Winter due to the weather, but scheduled weekly sessions will resume again in April 2017.

For more information on working with us, email Program Coordinator Val Magee at, or call (808) 264-1454 for actual days, now that winter rains have begun.

Residents and visitors are all welcome to volunteer at the cemetery; pruning shrubs, weeding, and spreading wood chips to help preserve sites and monuments.  There are many sites and monuments over 100 years old and they require careful maintenance for long term preservation.

No preregistration is required.  Bring clippers, garden gloves, hats and drinking water.

Under the leadership of the Nehalem Valley Historical Society, we will strive to continue the work through the winter with groups who would like to be involved. Employee, Civic & Youth Groups who want the opportunity to conduct volunteer field work January through March 2017 should contact Project Coordinator Val Magee (808) 264-1454 Email:  She will work with you to set up times.  NVHS is grateful to the City of Nehalem, Nehalem Garden Club & Tillamook County Cultural Coalition for funding support.

Individuals and groups can also support this project by becoming members of the Nehalem Valley Historical Society (NVHS) or contributing a tax deductible donation to NVHS-Cemetery Project.
