The Nehalem Valley Historical Society, in partnership with the City of Nehalem, the City of Manzanita and the State of Oregon leads a  cemetery beautification volunteer crew on Wednesdays from 11AM to 2PM.  In 2016, from April through November, volunteers contributed 300 hours towards the beautification and preservation of the Historic Nehalem American Legion Cemetery.  Over two years, the project has seen a new sign and split rail fence installed.  The effort received statewide recognition when Project Coordinator Val Vines Magee was honored with the Sally Donovan Award by the Oregon Heritage Commission.

For more information on working with us, email Program Coordinator Val Magee at vinesmagee@gmail.com, or call (808) 264-1454.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to volunteer at the cemetery; pruning shrubs, weeding, and spreading wood chips to help preserve sites and monuments.  There are many sites and monuments over 100 years old and they require careful maintenance for long term preservation.

No preregistration is required.  Bring clippers, garden gloves, hats and drinking water.
